My Winter Jam 2017 Wish List

After going to Winter Jam last month, and then the Tobymac Hits Deep tour this month, I have been thinking about who I would want to see at next year's Winter Jam. Here is my ideal list of artists:

1. Newsong

As the founding members of the tour, it would not be Winter Jam without them.

2. Newsboys

After seeing both God's Not Dead and God's Not Dead 2, I have seen a bit of their infectious stage presence. It would be great to get to see it live next year.

3. Lauren Daigle

She was one of the artists I was most looking forward to seeing at this year's Winter Jam, but unfortunately, she got the flu and was unable to sing at a few of the venues, including here in Wichita. I would be very pleased if she would come back to the tour next year for those of us who missed her this year.

4. Colton Dixon

American Idol was cruel enough to schedule their live series finale opposite the Hits Deep Tour's appearance in Wichita. While I was upset at first that he was going to be there instead of at the concert, I quickly came to realize that being on the American Idol finale would expose a new group of people to his music, some of who may not know the freedom of believing in Christ. However, having this perspective doesn't change the fact that I would enjoy seeing him live, so I would like to see him as one of the artists in next year's Winter Jam.

5. Tenth Avenue North

I have been a fan of this group since the first time I heard them, and my enjoyment of them increases with each new song they put out. However, I have not yet had the chance to see them live, and I think Winter Jam would be a great place to see them.

6. Jordan Feliz

He may be new to the Christian music scene, but with the infectious single "The River," he entered it with a bang. The obvious next step is being a part of a tour like Winter Jam with sold out crowds singing along every night.

7. Casting Crowns

This is another group that I instantly loved, but haven't seen live yet. Their unique blend of worship songs and songs that challenge us to be the best representatives of God we can be would be a great addition to Winter Jam.

8. Big Daddy Weave

One of my favorite parts of Winter Jam is when everyone in the auditorium starts singing along to part of an artist's song. I could easily see this happening with either "My Story" or "Redeemed," and I want them to be a part of Winter Jam next year so it can.

9. Audio Adrenaline

The one time I saw this group in concert was on their "farewell tour" back in 2006. Now they're back with some new band members, and it would be great to see them again.

10. Hawk Nelson

Their latest album, Diamonds, has a number of songs that are catchy and fun to sing along to. It would be great to be singing them along with other fans instead of only in the privacy of my own car.

Are there any artists you would like to see on the tour next year? Feel free to add them to the comments.

Outside Looking In

(My post Life>Death  chronicles my struggle with suicidal depression. This story is based on the vision God used to save my life.) It all started after the knife sliced through my wrist. As I watched my life drain away, I felt a sense of peace. I knew my pain was finally over. Soft arms lifted me up and carried me off to Heaven. There I watched as my parents found my body. They started to cry, which I had expected. What I hadn't expected was what they were saying. "What did we do wrong?" they cried out. "Nothing!" I screamed. "You did nothing wrong!" But they couldn't hear me. What had I done? As my friends and other family members found out about my death, they said the same thing, and I continued screaming that it wasn't their fault. Their reactions caused me to be in agony, which struck me as strange. If indeed I was in Heaven, wasn't I supposed to be pain free? That is what I had always been taught. Then came my funeral. It...

Scars in Heaven

"The thought that makes me smile now Even as the tears fall down Is that the only scars in Heaven Are on the hands that hold you now." ~ " Scars in Heaven " - Casting Crowns     The sermon this past Sunday was about Jesus appearing to His disciples after the Resurrection, Thomas not being there, and his subsequent doubt. While this is a typical sermon topic for the Sunday after Easter, this time I started thinking about how this story relates to the song quoted above. What Thomas needed to see to believe in the Resurrection were the scars on Christ's body.     Revelation 21:4 states, "Death will be no more, mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." To me, that means that any limitations we had in our lives, including our scars, are gone once we enter those pearly gates. I know a woman who struggled with mobility problems her whole life, which required her to wear ugly orthopedic shoes. After she died earlier...

Just a Girl

"And he came and said to her 'Greetings, favored one. The Lord is with you.'" - Luke 1:28 Last week we celebrated the birth of our Savior, and people around the world read about the miracle of His conception, the trip to Bethlehem, the shepherds, the angels, and the wise men. There are many characters in this wonderful story of our faith, but I want to focus on one in particular: His mother Mary. Of all of them, she was the first to know about what was about to take place, and the first to have to accept her part in the story. Most of the images depicting Mary show a lady in her mid-twenties at least, the age many would associate with someone engaged to be married. However, this is likely not the case. In that time, it was common for a girl to become betrothed when she was still in her early teens, often to a man who was much older and had already established a career. Jewish betrothal was as binding as a marriage, with the only difference being that the man had n...
